Meet our designers: Sam

Sam is our man in the North. Based in our York showroom, Sam has a background in high-end design. He is also our inhouse digital creator so if you have difficulty visualising a certain tile colour or pattern within a project, he can bring this to life on screen. He has a brilliant eye for design and ability to hone ideas to guide clients through their project.

Personal style

Sam finds interiors that blend themes and textures particularly successful. If there is a way that he can use an interesting combination of glazed tiles and patterned encaustic tiles, or a unique reclaimed find as a feature teamed with a complimentary plain tile then this is where he finds himself really enjoying the design process.

Main skills

Getting to know his customers and seeing the project through their eyes is one of Sam’s greatest skills. This allows him to create designs that reflect his customers tastes whilst allowing him to introduce his own ideas that he thinks will complement the overall scheme.

Sam has a great eye for visuals and enjoys building 3D models of spaces and using Photoshop to place our tiles into customers’ existing rooms. For him there is no better way to envisage how our tiles will look in your space than seeing how our tiles will look in your space!

I am available in our York Studio, Monday – Friday from 9am until 5pm

My Top Picks

Guadix Navy

As soon as we pulled the first sample tile from the box it was instantly topping my current favourites list. I love the blue used and how the lines bleed out into the tile. It’s a really unique design which I can’t wait to start using in visuals and mock-ups. I also really enjoy that Tom can’t pronounce the name, Gravadlax being my favourite interpretation to date.

Pink Alalpardo Tile

Our Pink Alalpardo tile is just a really fun tile.

I love the results you can achieve when laying it in a random pattern and a splash of pink helps to bring a playful finish to any room.

Skinny White Metro Tile

As far as glazed tiles go, I don’t think there’s a better match to our encaustic offering, really obviously handmade with imperfections and flaws. I’m a huge fan of herringbone patterns and the proportions of this work really well, the rough edges and textured surface help add a new dimension to a classic style.

Black Otura Tile

The Black Otura tile is probably my favourite tile for covering large spaces.

The 3D effect you can achieve results in a floor that I would never get tired of looking at.
